Sunday night Clay got a call telling him to have his bags packed and ready to go to Iraq Monday. There is a medic (female who is now pregnant) returning and he is needed immediately to go take her place.
This week has been pretty much a blur of such mixed emotions, each day hoping to get more information. He was then told later in the week that he would leave in January still and then just yesterday was told that out of the 50+ people who were supposed to be deploying in January, only 4 were going. He's not one of them. At the moment. Things are still subject to change and we still haven't been granted permission to go to Tennessee in January for the DO school interview. We're so grateful for the time we'll have together and to be able to be together for the holidays. Who knows what another day will bring, but we'll take the time as we get it.
Things have been rather chaotic for all of us this week as we had to tell the kids at first that Dad wouldn't be here for Christmas and then he'll be leaving after Christmas again. We're not going to tell him that he's not going at all because it's better where it is right now. Jonathan has really been struggling this month at school. He's not doing horrible things but is having a hard time expressing his emotions. Hopefully things will smooth out eventually for all of us.
